Voyager Labs, Ltd. Update on Ongoing Meta Litigation

May 24, 2024

NEW YORK, NY, May 24, 2024 – Voyager Labs, a world leader in AI-based investigation solutions, today provided an update on its ongoing litigation with Meta.

On May 23rd, a federal Court in California declined to dismiss Meta’s lawsuit against Voyager Labs, Ltd. Media reporting that indicates the Court made any factual findings or concluded that Voyager Labs Ltd. engaged in any wrongdoing is inaccurate, as this was simply a decision to allow the case to continue. Voyager Labs, Ltd. respectfully disagrees with the Court’s decision, but looks forward to vigorously advancing its defenses and remains confident that it will ultimately prevail on the merits.

Regarding initial media coverage of this decision, we are disappointed that some inaccuracies have been published and offer the following clarifications:

  • The Court did not determine that there was ever a contract between Voyager Labs, Ltd. and Meta.
  • The Court also did not determine that Voyager Labs, Ltd. violated Meta’s terms of use. In fact, the Court made no findings whatsoever as to what Voyager did, rather stating, on the contrary: “Whether Voyager violated all of the terms in effect during the relevant period, some of them, or none of them can be sorted out through discovery and raised at summary judgment.”
  • The Court also did not determine that Voyager Labs, Ltd. had created fake accounts or attempted to avoid detection.

As detailed in Voyager Labs’ January 2023 statement on the litigation, we believe that the Meta lawsuit is meritless, reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of how the software products at issue work and, most importantly, is detrimental to U.S. and global public safety.

The public’s right to access public web data has never been more critical to improving public safety. Law enforcement and national security organizations worldwide use these software solutions to analyze their own internal intelligence data as well as other publicly available information to address critical challenges such as human trafficking, internet crimes against children (ICAC), gang violence, homicide, narcotics trafficking, and terrorism. Recent Court rulings have validated this important public right. This award-winning software thus supports the tireless work by these organizations to save lives and improve public safety in a time of escalating public hatred, terrorism and crime.
